## Echo Sounder Setup

The echo sounder connection and setup are performed in accordance with the {doc}`procedure </sections/sensors/navigation-sensors/index>`.

Depth sensor: **Echo Sounder**, **INS**.

Received message processing and checksum verification must be enabled in the sensor settings.

Echo sounders, depending on the device type, transmit the following IEC 61162 sentence headers:
- **SD** — Sounder, depth;
- **SS** — Sounder, scanning;
- **YX** — Transducer;
- **IN** — INS.

Ensure that received message processing is correctly configured in the sensor settings:

- Header processing is enabled
- Checksum verification is configured

It is recommended to periodically verify the echo sounder's correct operation by comparing its readings with known depths on the chart or when berthing at a berth with a known depth. This helps identify sensor or configuration issues in a timely manner.
