This section describes the main operations with the NSR ECDIS NES-3000 software.

Application Startup

Startup Procedure

On first launch, ECDIS will display the text of the license agreement.

To start using ECDIS, accept the terms of the agreement by pressing “Accept”.

Important

NSR ECDIS NES-3000 is supplied as pre-installed software on a specialized computer.

NSR ECDIS NES-3000 does not have an operating system desktop.

Continue — loading the NSR ECDIS NES-3000 software: during loading, a license check is performed and a splash screen is displayed.

Shutdown Procedure

Shutting down powers off the ECDIS device.

Tip

Briefly pressing the hardware power button located on the computer case or the remote button brings up the power management menu.

Important

Before shutting down, ensure that all important data is saved and there are no active operations with charts or licenses.

Warning

Holding the ECDIS hardware power button for more than 9 seconds will result in unconditional power disconnect.

Preparation for Update

NSR ECDIS NES-3000 software update is performed using a USB medium containing an archive with updates released by the software developer or from the ECDIS software manufacturer’s repository.

Onboard system software updates are performed by authorized dealers of NEW SUNRISE CO., LTD.

Update Search Logic

  1. First, ECDIS searches for updates on the removable medium.

  2. If no medium is present, the search is performed in the repository.

  3. If a medium is found and an update package is detected on it, the software checks the update relevance.

  4. After checking update relevance, a comparison is made with the update in the repository.

  5. The latest relevant update is installed.

Attention

To update the software from the repository, Internet access must be provided.

When configuring the bridge network, the repository address must be added to the list of trusted addresses.

Update Procedure

1. Checking for Updates

  • If no updates are available, a notification will appear at the bottom of the window: “No updates found”

  • When update files are detected, confirm the action in the dialog by pressing “Update”

  • The software update utility will be launched

  • The update is performed automatically

3. Completing the Update

  • Wait for the update to complete

  • Press the “Restart” button to apply the changes

4. Installation Verification and Database Update

  • After restarting the ECDIS application, a screen will be displayed showing a list of databases and their verification results

  • If a checkmark is displayed next to all items in the list, the update was completed correctly

  • To proceed to the application, press Continue

Warning

Do not interrupt the update process before it is fully complete. This may result in system corruption.

Important

If the software update completes incorrectly, contact an authorized dealer of NEW SUNRISE CO., LTD.

Important

Update failure — Before starting the ECDIS software update, ensure that the correct time is set in ECDIS. If the ECDIS date and time are earlier than the update package release date, the application will not install the updates.

Tip

Before updating the ECDIS software, it is recommended to create a backup copy.

Software Protection

Protection System

NSR ECDIS NES-3000 software is supplied together with a hardware protection key (USB key or SD card key) and an application usage license. On each startup, the application automatically checks for the presence of the key and the license validity period.

Media Requirements

Important

The license file must be written to a USB medium with the FAT32 file system.

Prepare the removable media used for installing licenses and User Permit files in ECDIS as described in the Removable Media Preparation section.

License Installation Procedure

USB Key

  • License files are recommended to be placed in the root directory of the USB medium

  • Archives *.zip or *.tar.gz are supported

  • It is recommended to use an empty USB medium

SD Card Key

  • The license file is located on the medium itself

  • The application will automatically install it on startup

  1. Insert the USB medium with the license file into the ECDIS USB port

  2. The application will automatically install the license corresponding to the installed key

  3. ECDIS will continue operation after successful installation

User Permit installation is performed in the same manner.

Lockout on Key Removal

When the hardware protection key is removed from ECDIS, after 10 seconds the ECDIS interface will be locked. A message “Insert dongle!” will be displayed.

Recommendations for Key Issues

Tip

It is recommended to perform the following actions:

  1. Check the key presence in the USB port

  2. Remove the key and reinsert it into the port

  3. If the key is not recognized within a minute — reboot ECDIS

  4. If ECDIS cannot find the hardware key — contact the ECDIS supplier

License Update

License Type

NSR ECDIS NES-3000 software is supplied with a perpetual commercial software license.

When a License Update is Required

An ECDIS license update is required when:

  • Changes are made to the ECDIS software manufacturer’s licensing system

  • The hardware protection key fails

  • Additional options are purchased for the NSR ECDIS NES-3000 software

Preparation for Update

To update an expired license or install a new license, you must obtain the new license file from the system supplier.

License Installation Procedure

1. Preparing the Medium

  • Write the new license file to a USB medium formatted with FAT32

2. Inserting the Medium

  • Insert the USB medium into the ECDIS USB port

Warning

After inserting the USB medium, perform mounting).

3. Automatic Installation

  • ECDIS will install the license

Note

The license installation process occurs automatically when the license file is detected on the USB medium.

ECDIS provides backup of:

  • SENC

  • ENC certificates and licenses

  • ECDIS settings

  • Routes

  • Manual chart corrections and user objects

Backup creation is accompanied by a progress indicator.

Important

Backup creation time depends on the ENC collection size, route collection, volume of manual corrections and user chart, and may take a significant amount of time.

Note

The backup creation process runs in the background and does not restrict the navigator from performing ECDIS operational tasks.

Restoring from a Backup

MenuSettings → System → Backup → Restore backup

Important

When restoring, all previously installed charts, certificates, routes, settings, manual corrections, and user objects will be replaced with data from the backup.

Note

Restoring a backup requires a subsequent ECDIS reboot.

Important

Restoring a backup may take a significant amount of time depending on the volume of previously saved data. The backup restoration speed also depends on the USB port class and USB medium.

Managing Backups

Number of Copies

  • The number of backups is determined by the ECDIS hard disk capacity

Deleting Old Copies

  • With long-term storage, backup data becomes outdated

  • It is advisable to forcibly delete old backups

Tip

It is recommended to regularly create backups before important updates or system changes.

Tip

It is recommended to store ECDIS backups on external storage media.
