Requirements for Installing ENCs

To install ENCs, the following is required:

  1. Install a valid Scheme Administrator certificate IHO.CRT (supplied with the ENCs or download from https://iho.int/en/enc-data-protection)

  2. Install ENC cell permits (Cell Permit)

  3. Install the ENCs

Important

Any operations related to ENCs (installation or removal of Scheme Administrator certificates, ENC cell permits, installation of ENC cells or updates to cells, removal of ENC data sets) are only possible with Master privileges. In BackUp mode, ENC operations are unavailable.

Tip

When installing open (unencrypted) charts, prior installation of the root certificate and ENC licenses is not required.

Installing/Removing Scheme Administrator Certificates

Installing certificates:

  1. Insert the USB medium with the data sets into the ECDIS USB port

  2. Menu path

MenuChart collection → Certificates → Find Certificates → Install

Certificate installation dialog

  1. Upon successful installation, a notification “Certificate installed successfully” will appear at the bottom of the panel

  2. The certificate status will change to “Installed”

  3. Return to the ENC Collection — press Back

Note

The installation result is added to the Installation Log.

Tip

The list of installed certificates can be viewed in the settings on the tab Certificates/Permits.

Important

ECDIS supports installation of SA certificates packaged in a zip archive separately or within a Dataset zip archive.

Installation of SA certificates from nested second-level archives is not performed. To install certificates, the nested files must be extracted first.

Removing certificates:

Menu path

MenuSettings → System → Certificates/Permits → Certificate → Delete

Removing root certificates.

A notification will appear at the bottom of the panel and an entry will be made in the Installation Log.

Installing/Removing ENC Cell Permits

Installing ENC cell permits:

  1. Insert the USB medium with the data sets into the ECDIS USB port

  2. Menu path

MenuChart collection → Permit → Find Permits → Install

License installation dialog

  1. Upon successful installation, a notification will appear at the bottom of the panel

  2. Return to the ENC Collection — press Back

Note

If errors occur, the log will indicate errors in accordance with IHO S-63 (see section 5.7). The navigator should review the error and act in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Important

ECDIS supports installation of ENC cell permits packaged in a zip archive separately or within a Dataset zip archive.

Installation of ENC cell permits from nested second-level archives is not performed. To install ENC cell permits, the nested files must be extracted first.

Tip

License management recommendations:

When receiving an update set for cells already installed in ECDIS, it is not recommended to reinstall the cell permits. Repeated installation of permits for the same cells will significantly slow down the ENC installation process and may eventually make it impossible to decrypt the cells.

If the error **”SSE 21”** occurs, it is recommended to delete the ENC permits from ECDIS, reinstall the ENC permits, and retry the ENC cell installation.

Removing licenses:

Menu path

MenuSettings → System → Certificates/Permits → Delete

Removing ENC cell permits.

Warning

When licenses are removed, the corresponding ENC cells will become unavailable for display and updates cannot be applied to them.

Tip

ENC management recommendations:

  • Regularly create backups of important chart sets

  • Monitor the currency of installed updates

  • Check license status before planning voyages

  • Use the search function to quickly locate ENCs

Note

ECDIS supports operation with AIO.

ECDIS treats AIO cells as ENC cells: installation of AIO cells, updates, and removal of AIO are performed in the same way as for S-57 cells.
