Using Radar Mode
Attention
This manual is not a training guide for using the Radar. The navigator, independently, in accordance with their skills and experience, taking into account prevailing conditions and circumstances, controls the MIRAN 09 Radar scanner, identifies the coastline and radar landmarks, selects and acquires radar targets for tracking.
When Radar Mode is enabled, in the ECS software:
the colour palette changes (the colour palette is designed so that light colours do not obscure the radar image and do not interfere with radar image readability);
a Radar Mode tab is added to the multi-function window (enabling the Radar scanner control function);
the target tracking and highlighting function is enabled.

Navigational settings do not change when switching to Radar Mode.
Navigational settings (motion mode, chart orientation) are available in Radar Mode.
ENC in Radar Mode
In Radar Mode, the ENC serves as a background layer.
When switching to Radar Mode, the chart display load remains the same as in the ECS.
Tip
It is recommended to prepare a preset chart display load in advance, so that chart objects do not obscure the radar image and are convenient for the navigator, and enable it when switching to Radar Mode.

ENC is disabled by pressing
, ENC is enabled by pressing
.

When disabling the ENC, a notification will be displayed:

When exiting Radar Mode, the ENC will be forcibly enabled.
Routes in Radar Mode

When switching to Radar Mode during active route monitoring, the active route will be displayed on the screen.

Disabling the ENC does not affect route display and monitoring.

Tip
For convenience, it is recommended to enable By Route orientation, set the motion mode to Relative, and perform a fixed offset of the sweep centre closer to the bottom edge of the screen.

Cursor in Radar Mode
In Radar Mode, a new cursor state has been introduced.

Manual Target Acquisition
In Radar Mode, the ECS processes the radar image, highlights radar targets, tracks them, assigns numbers, and calculates collision avoidance parameters for radar targets using the ARPA function.
Important
Radar target processing is performed manually. The navigator independently selects an echo on the radar image and places a marker on it. The ARPA function determines whether the selected echo is a target or not.
Note
The ECS in Radar Mode does not implement full ARPA functionality, does not generate or transmit sentences $--TLL, $--TTM, $--TLB, and does not perform AIS target and radar target association.

If the radar echo is identified as a radar target, the symbol changes, the target vector and collision avoidance parameters are calculated. Throughout the radar target tracking period, the ARPA continuously refines the TCPA. |
Caution
The TCPA of an AIS target and a radar target, if they represent the same target, may differ. The quality of the calculation depends on the radar signal quality and Radar configuration settings.

To view the target motion parameters and collision avoidance data, select the target on the screen.

The ARPA tab contains target data.

Target identification, visual association, collision avoidance analysis, and actions taken under current conditions and circumstances are the responsibility of the navigator.
